Here’s a music video made by me combining uplifting trance and the evolution of a legendary car, the Porsche 911, from its debut as the 356 in 1950 to the outstanding 911 (997) Turbo released this year. The song is “Dreamer” by K90, and the footage is from Porsche, Top Gear and Fifth Gear archives. The models featured are in this order : 356, 911 1963, 911 S, 911 Targa, 911 (930) Turbo, 911 2.4 (or 2.7), 911 (964) Carrera, 911 (964) 3.6L Turbo, 911 (993) Carrera, 911 (993) Turbo, 911 (996) Carrera, 911 (996) Turbo, 911 (997) Carrera and Carrera S, and finally, the 911 (997) Turbo. Most of the music video is synchronized, exept at some rare places (I tried my best…) Hope you enjoy this montage! – mattskull16

FOR THE FULL TEST: www.edmunds.com Only about 10 seconds elapse in our drive of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet before we realize that we’ve just begun a love/hate relationship with Porsche’s most brilliant piece of technology in the last 20 years — the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, which, roughly translated, means “badass tranny.” Seriously, Porsche’s PDK (Porsche Double Clutch) transmission — a new addition to the 911 model range for 2009 — is as spectacular at changing gears as it is awkward to use. This transmission has won our hearts with ridiculously quick shifts and immediate throttle response, but also doused our spirits with its frustrating interface. Still, once you start winding corners together after adjusting to the shifting characteristics of the PDK, you’ll quickly realize that the 2009 Porsche Carrera S Cabriolet’s combination of newfound power and a best-of-both-worlds transmission enables it to satisfy the hard-core performance nerd and Newport Ned alike.
www.edmunds.com We’re only a few months away from the official launch of the 2009 Porsche 911, but recent spy video from the Nürburgring suggests that a refreshed version of the 911 GT3 will follow for the 2010 model year. Like the forthcoming 911 Carrera, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 gets only minor styling changes this time around. The reworked front end has been simplified with only three air inlets instead of five, while the front marker lights have been narrowed slightly. Tape over the taillights indicates a few minor changes to their design along with the switch to full LED illumination. It’s hard to tell if the spoiler is full production spec, but it’s certainly high enough to carry the GT3 tradition. Like the Carrera, the 2010 gt3’s flat-6 engine will benefit from the addition of direct fuel injection. The new technology will deliver an extra 20 horsepower in the standard Carrera, so expect a similar bump to the gt3’s current 415-hp rating. Displacement is expected to remain at 3.6 liters. Although it’s clear from the sound of the gearchanges that this GT3 prototype has a manual transmission, the introduction of the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission in the standard 911 opens the door for inclusion in the GT3 as well. The new PDK transmission is essentially Porsche’s version of Volkswagen’s DSG, but whether it’s up to handling the gt3’s additional power remains to be seen. With deliveries of the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models scheduled to start …
with their engines mounted at the back, the Porsche 911 has always been a scary car. But things have just got scarier as Jeremy steps into the Porsche 911 Turbo. Spare a thought too for the Stig as he wrestles the Turbo around a seriously wet track on a power lap.
